A Tough Monday

Today seemed hard.  Herbie battled sleeping in his classes.  Sean was sick and I missed his positive attitude.  Grant was sick and I missed his laugh.  Corrina was gone, don't know if she was sick, but I missed her pretending that she didn't know the answers to my questions.  Alex!  And where was Alex?  Off chasing rabits?  Halley was gone to Costa Rica.  It seemed like Monday all day.  Then there was the Egypt uprising and pictures of people shouting and screaming.  The strangest news video was of one soldier type shooting his gun in the air to somehow stop five thousand people from moving up the street in Cairo.  It didn't work so well.
Then I heard that Rush Limbaugh didn't appreciate Jack LaLane for all his thoughts on health.  Included in that barrage was the idea that eating all the fruits and vegetables is a liberal idea to take the fun out of eating.
That seemed like a bit much even for Rush.  One caller said that liberals were not going to take away his right to eat at McDonalds.  In my never ending battle to be a good moderate I'm going to buy my students donuts on Tuesday.  Big maple bars, glazed donuts, and apple fritters.  I'll do anything to relate to conservatives.

Here I Am

Here I am at the lockin.  Where is that?  The OCS High School has an annual lockin every May.  This year the SA, under the leadership of Mr. Fox, has decided to have two lockin events.  Wow!  I really don't like the lockin thing.  First, it is built upon the premise that sleeping somewhere other than home is somehow desireable.  No.  Not really folks.  Second, it is built on the premise that junk food is what brings us happiness.  I have no control at these events, so I overeat, and overeat, and overeat.  I'm sitting at my desk, it's 9.58pm, and I'm feeling sick.  No, it's not my fault, the SA and this lockin is to blame.
I must admit that the January lockin has been rather cool.  The 8th grade was invited and I love it when any group on earth is inclusive.  And those 8th graders?  They're really with it, amazing at the games, understanding how high schoolers behave, and blending, blending, and blending in with the group.  It's true!  They were like part of us in the high school after about 30 seconds.  What's with this group of middle-school people?  Who are their parents?  Who is their teacher? (David Mayday)
Well, I must say a word about The Fox.  And the classy Mrs. The Fox.  They're in the movie theatre (The Fox's room) watching the movie with the kids, Melissa is cleaning in the kitchen, and I am sitting at my computer.  Lucky me, The Fox has given me permission to go and sleep at home.
I love this LOCKIN!  I LOVE THIS SCHOOL! Now I hope the blue rabbit posts some pictures of this event so you can also enjoy my happiness.

Work...Was Easy!

So, I work at the Funhouse, in case some of you readers didn't know. I work as teen staff, which means that I run the activities going on there along with a co-worker, who is also teen staff. Above the teen staff is my boss, who in turn has her boss, the big runner-of-the-show, Pete Moe (Ha, that rhymed). Basically, I have a couple of bosses who run my show.

Anyways, onto the subject. At the Funhouse, we have something now called Activity Hour, in which we have kids participate in one of three activities; homework club, arts & crafts, or a random activity done with one of the teen staff.
Well, we recently acquired a brand new Xbox 360 Kinect. See where I'm going? I decided it would be an amazingly fun idea to ease up my day, and in turn the kids' day, by hooking it up for the first time, getting it set up, and putting the game Dance Central in there.

He shoots!

                        He scores!

It was a Big success! After I informed the kids about it being up and running, the went running ("Please, no running in the Funhouse!") for Video Pod 1. I didn't see them until the end of the work day (Activity Hour is at 3:30, Funhouse closes at 5:30. Do the math), at which they still thought it was 4:30, the time when Activity Hour ends.
After a huge sigh of relief at the work day passing by so quickly and smoothly, I headed on my way home.

So, that was basically my best and easiest day of work...ever. And today, I'm hoping it goes just as smoothly.

Silent Snow

This poem is a favorite from an the anonymous she. I asked what poem she liked that had the topic of nature, and this was the answer she gave to me. A tale of a young man traveling through the darkest depths of a snow covered forest. The author of this poem is Robert Frost.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Anonymous's Recommendation

Everybody, everywhere, everyday is waiting for some spectacular movie to be released. Some of the best movies in my opinion are Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Avatar. I recommend both of these movies because they are excellently acted and directed.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
The novel written by J.K. Rowling has captured the interest of many teenagers and adults. But directors and producers didn't want the opportunity to go to waste to make movies out of this thrilling book series. The seventh movie follows the basic plot of the ultimate evil sorcerer Voldemort, who is raising an army of Death Eaters. His goal is set upon claiming the elder wand, the strongest wand ever created. Along the way, our heroes Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley have set out on a dangerous mission to recover the 7 horcruxes; these various objects contain fragments of Voldemort's soul. Voldemort's other goal is to kill Harry Potter, but accomplishing that would be most difficult.

James Cameron's Avatar:
A paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home. [Review from imdb.com]
This is one of my favorite epic adventure movies. The movie itself keeps you on the edge of your seat and leaves you wanting more. It has a twist of Terminator 2 and Titanic; this movie roles the romance and fantasy into one completely satisfying movie to watch.

Rhythm Is Gonna Get You

Particularly, I like all music out there. Everything from pop, rock, movie soundtracks, jazz, christian and all that good stuff. The others like R&B soul, hip-hop, and rap, the only thing I like about that kind of music is the beat and the bass, I don't really enjoy the lyrics. Soft music is the best when you're trying to fall asleep or just wanting to relax. At times like these, don't you wonder about what everyone else listens to? What are the top songs that people all over add as their favorites? Here are the top ten songs in the world today, courtesy of iTunes:

1. Grenade by Bruno Mars
2. Hold It Against Me by Britney Spears
3. Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa
4. Hey Baby by Pitbull feat. T-Pain
5. Coming Home by Diddy-Dirty Money & Skylar Grey
6. Firework by Katy Perry
7. Tonight by Enrique Iglesias feat. Ludacris & DJ Frank E
8. The Time by Black Eyed Peas
9. We R Who We R by Ke$ha
10. 6 foot 7 foot by Lil Wayne feat. Cory Gunz

A Peek Into The Nest

With the firing of the Philadelphia Eagles' Sean McDermott (Who interestingly enough has the same name as an old friend of mine...), a new one had to be found, and luckily, there was one ready to be lured away.
Through aggressive luring, the Eagles managed to snag DC Jim Washburn out of the water. This latest catch of theirs may land them a much better difference between wins and losses next year, with it in their favor.

Jim Washburn is considered the "pro" at his job, and by many he's the best in the league. With a track record like his, it's no wonder the Eagles flew fast and dove for this hotshot. He used to be the coach of the Tennessee Titans - running with them for a massive 12 years - until yesterday, the 19th of January. Working with the Titans, he was coaching 4 specific players for the head coach's 4-3 scheme, so you can bet that Andy Reid, head coach for the Eagles, was looking for a guy who was good with the 4-3. Pretty good reasoning, right?

So, send Washburn with the Eagles, tie him in with Reid, add a little Michael Vick, maybe some Jason Avant, and then that 10-6 W/L for this past season, and you've got one heck of a season for 2011. Things are changing in the Eagle's nest, and you can certainly expect them to keep the NFC East top position, as they finished with this past year.

Also, don't forget to watch Superbowl XLV on Sunday, February 6th, 2011 at 6:30pm. If you want, you can head to the OIHS gym to watch it on a huge screen. The past couple of years I've enjoyed it, so why not? Oh, and since my favorite team, the Eagles, are out, my money's on the Green Bay Packers for the Super Bowl, and for the win.

It'll be time for P.E. in a little while...
Better get some EGGsercise!

So Long, Photography

With the new semester now fully underway, some classes of the past have gone, one of which I belonged to for a time.

Flowers outside the Templin Center
Photography Assignment: Colors

Photography was an amazing class where we would be able to freely take, criticize and edit the pictures we took. The entire class itself was only composed of about 8 people, with Anna Vedder assisting and learning at the same time.

At the start of the semester, we focused on the linear aspect of photography, thus dealing with the "rule of thirds" and horizontal lines. The rule of thirds is that, for a more interesting and appealing picture, you should not have a line down the middle, but two lines dividing the picture into thirds. While working this into horizontal lines, some of us met road blocks, but we got past them easily.

Northwest History Trip

From the bascis, we moved on to action and motion shots, to scenery pictures (with trips to Cascade Falls many a time), and to portraits - ranging from group shots, to big group shots, to a portrait of one person.

Personally, I loved my time in the Photography class, and I certainly loved and will use the skills I gained.
Thanks Mr. Claus, thanks Anna, and thank you Photography Class!

A Response and a Review

Well, that certainly wasn't a throw I was expecting, but between us, actually, we managed to get Google out of the game.

So, yeah, it took a few innings, but we made it.

Anyways, on to news. The Scuba Diving class has figured out that there's some textbook work to be done, some things to be learned, and it's not all fun and games. Well...not all, but mostly. The fun and games will show themselves in the latter portion of the semester, with the work towards a lifetime scuba diving license coming as a priority.
To go along with the Scuba Diving, three students have bravely entered the Ground School to earn their pilots' license. So far, they have braved three tests, and are working hard on grabbing those scholarships, so says my source, Doug Smith.
Also, there's the Art class. From what I've heard, they're making pillows. In my opinion, sleep well Art students, sleep well indeed. (Make them out of cotton, if you can, it's softer (And while you're at it, can I have one? Just kidding)).
To finish this list, there is a one-man Auto Mechanics class. When you think about it, it's not too bad: no distractions, easier learning environment, and definitely an easier way to complete tests and get through everything faster. Have fun, Mr. Sisson, and same to you, John the Fox.

Once Upon A Time,

I taught at a school that said a vital part of one's character is curiosity.  I didn't see the connection-at first.  Today at OCS I saw that connection again.  And again.  The Blue Rabbit sat in class and kept the curiosity flowing.  He tried over and over again to outsmart Google and the road blocks to starting a new blog.  His curiosity won-Google lost.  Three cheers for The Blue Rabbit!  Three cheers for Character!  Three cheers for Curiosity!
So how is it with you?  How is it with me?  Real academic growth, spiritual growth, emotional growth, and character development, takes place when we unleash our curiosity and go for It.  NOT THE GRADE-BUT TO GO FOR THE, WHY?  I love this school!

The New Kids On The Blog...

That title's something catch(e)y for you.

Welcome to the new site for the Blog class, still under the same management, just now under a new name.

With some heading off for their new semester-length classes, the staff here at The OCS 360° will be heading towards the computers to start typing up the latest news.
So, as a mere starter to the new season;

Let the games begin.
